This in my opinion was an incredibly sad novel, and its filled to the brim with superstition, and deceit, and hurt. It is about a mothers love and again like most of Toni Morrisons novels its set agains the backdrop of slavery. Its a tale of a mother daughter relationship so strong that it defies reality and nature. Sethe an ex-slave escapes from slavery and creates a new life for herself with her children. However the house they move into his haunted by the ghost of Sethes murdered daughter. Sethes two youngest sons run away from home because of the ghosts persistent torture, but sethes last daughter Denver stays with her mother.
Soon a mysterious young lady comes into the picture and Sethe believes that it is her oldest daughter Beloved, whom she murdered that has been reincarnated. Its all downhill after that, where things get from bad to worse and theres pregnancy, past hurts, stories of slavery that no woman should have to endure, and all that other juicy stuff that makes up a good novel. It is truly a must read, and im tellin you , you must read this. So what more do you need to hear? lol Its truly unbelievable the things that this book reveals and the characters that come to life on the pages before you. It also helps that there is this amazing movie based on this novel so you could also go check that out. So go! Now! LOL
