Eat Pray Love....

This novel  was such a great read, and im sure it will be for you and especially those who have yet to travel. I have never left this tiny island and i know there is an entire world out there just waiting to be explored. Sometimes to find oneself, one must travel but other times you find yourself wherever you are, if you just look hard enough. It is not a requirement to go leaping borders and island hopping to find the meaning of life , but i aint hitting on Elizabeth Gilbert. What she did , she thought it was exactly what she needed. Anything to get away from sleepless nights crying on her bathroom floor over fleeting joy and a frail marriage. She divorced her husband and as difficult it seemed i think it was best, this touched me soo much. She had her many reasons, that she expressed to her readers, and i felt heavy hearted just reading her words. This novel made me feel like i was right next to her, sitting in an Italian coffee shop eating tons of gelato and pastas galore until our clothes strained at its seams. I sat with her while she meditated in the beautiful dark temples of India and i felt those tiny butterflies when she found the inner peace and balance of true love in Indonesia.
I loved this book, reading it felt liberating and the imagery just helped all the more. The description of certain scenes, colours, experiences like her moments of meditaion, were literally spelt out for you. You will be taken on a journey, in fact many journeys and this book will hopefully inspire you as it has inspired me. Soon there might be this aching desire to get off your butt and jump on the next plane to see new things, but the beauty and true art of this bokk are exactly that; its limitations. The need to wantt to do as youve read, but the reality(for some) that it might be impossible for now. So basically i read this book , living vicariously through Elizabeth , all her hurts , her joys, her bursts of lust lol, even her moments of inner conflict. Her feelings of inadequacy were mine, we were one, when she felt inadequate because it was so difficult to meditate; she couldnt keep her mind still. Her insecurities were mine, when she embarked on a rebound relationship, and she was reduced to a lovesick school girl, needy and afraid. We were one when she said this also,"I have a history of making decisions very quickly about men. I have always fallen in love fast and without measuring risks. I have a tendency not only to see the best in everyone, but to assume that everyone is emotionally capable of reaching his highest potential. I have fallen in love more times than i care to count ,with the highest potential of a man, rather than the man himself, and then i have hung onto the relationship for a long time(sometimes far too long) waiting for a man to ascend to his own greatness. Many times in romance, i have been a victim of my own optimism."
Ladies, can i get an amen to that?????
No?
Well it was worth a try. lol
I hope im doing a good job on marketing this book, because it is by far the best read ive had in a while.
TRULY.
Oh and again, theres is a movie based on this novel starring the beautiful Julia Roberts, so you guys could cop that as well.
And another thing about this book that i love is how down to earth this woman is, which i guess youve already realised. I mean she spares nothing , its all about napping, depression and yes....masturbation.
Which is why i absolutely found this quote hilarious.....(not in a "haha" kinda way though, but like a "i know what you mean) "A word about masturbation, if I may. Sometimes it can be a handy (forgive me) tool, but other times it can be so acutely unsatisfying that it only makes you feel worse in the end. After a year and half of celibacy, after a year and a half of calling my own name in my bed-built-for-one, I was getting a little sick of the sport. Still, tonight, in my restless state—what else could I do? The potatoes hadn’t worked. So I had my way with myself yet again. As usual, my mind paged through its backlog of erotic files, looking for the right fantasy or memory that would get the job done fastest. But nothing was really working tonight—not the firemen, not the pirates, not that pervy old Bill Clinton standby scene that usually does the trick, not even the Victorian gentlemen crowding around me in their drawing room with their task force of nubile young maids. In the end, the only thing that would satisfy was when I reluctantly admitted into my mind the idea of my good friend from Brazil climbing into this bed with me… on me…"LOL

That is truly a good read man. Loved it!
You must go get the book!

Love....

This novel caught my eye simply because of the title, ille be honest and then because of the author. lol. I know, a bit bias on my part because this is the third novel by Ms Morrison but this is my blog! Im allowed to be bias! lol I am a bit objective at times but this is not one of those times. So, like i was saying, before my conscience rudely interrupted me, this novel is a really good one, its shorter than most of her ive read but the story is as juicy and dynamic as always. I wont delve into everything seeing as some folks are accusing me of being a spoiler , so ille just give you guys a short glimpse,a lil push. It is a tale of how several women are connected by their love or their dependence(financially) on deceasesd Bill Cosey ( when i saw the name i instantly pictured Bill Cosby with the mack daddy personality of Bing Crosby) a rich hotel owner whose actions had such a lasting effect on these women that long after his death there was still tremendous confusion. There exists tiny sub plots within this novel that makes it ever so interesting, namely the relationship with Heed, Cosey's second wife and his granddaughter Christine. Heed who was Cosey's child bride at the age of 11, has now become the heiress instead of Christine, so you know theres gonna be some drama there. Their roles as adults changed drasticaly because Heed was once a servant and Christine was the pampered heiress. Its twisted and lovely and im giving all the good stuff away, but i dont care. lol Oh and who could forget this sadomasochistic affair between these two workers who were employed by Heed, a young guy named Romen and this tough, knee -high boots-wearing vixen with an extra toe named Junior. They exist as a kind of Romeo and Juliet (hinted by their initials haha!) My favorite quote in this book being from Romen, "Her face was a study....her breasts, her armpits required focused exploration; her skin demanded closer analysis. Was it perfume flowery or more like rain? Besides he had to memorise the thirty-eight ways she could smile and what each meant. He needed a whole semester to figure out her sci-fi eyes: the lids the lashes, the irises, so shiny black." I mean that is a beautiful quote! And theres alot more where that one came from but its the only one I loved completely. Im even blushing just typing these words.lol
So yesssss go cop that book and read the hell out of it cuz its gggggrrreat! LOL

Beloved....

This in my opinion was an incredibly sad novel, and its filled to the brim with superstition, and deceit, and hurt. It is about a mothers love and again like most of Toni Morrisons novels its set agains the backdrop of slavery. Its a tale of a mother daughter relationship so strong that it defies reality and nature. Sethe an ex-slave escapes from slavery and creates a new life for herself with her children. However the house they move into his haunted by the ghost of Sethes murdered daughter. Sethes two youngest sons run away from home because of the ghosts persistent torture, but sethes last daughter Denver stays with her mother.
Soon a mysterious young lady comes into the picture and Sethe believes that it is her oldest daughter Beloved, whom she murdered that has been reincarnated. Its all downhill after that, where things get from bad to worse and theres pregnancy, past hurts, stories of slavery that no woman should have to endure, and all that other juicy stuff that makes up a good novel. It is truly a must read, and im tellin you , you must read this. So what more do you need to hear? lol Its truly unbelievable the things that this book reveals and the characters that come to life on the pages before you. It also helps that there is this amazing movie based on this novel so you could also go check that out. So go! Now! LOL

Song of Solomon....

This highly fictional novel by Toni Morrison was a wonderful read. The main character being "Milkman" who learns the hard lesson that "truth" is difficult or impossible to obtain, simply because of the conflicting stories he recieves by his parents, concerning his mother's fidelity and his grandfather's ,"too close" relationship with his daughter. Milkman has  lived a sheltered life evident only by rumors of him being breastfed way into his early adolescent years by his mother. He also gains a reputation of being a"mamas boy" in the tiny village where he lives. As time passes in the novel we are introduced to many of the folks in milkmans life, my favorite being his aunt Pilate, who is almost considered Divine, a female Christ-inspite of her name. She was born without a avel and so she is somewhat of a mystical character in the novel. We also meet Hagar who falls obssessively in love with Milkman and being unable to cope with his rejection,(obviously he rejects her, shes his cousin; although that doesnt stop him from sleeping with her) she attempts to kill him about 6 times. My fav quote being, something along the lines of...." she could not cope with the fact that he could not love her so she settled for his fear". Not exactly in those words but its the best i can do given that i dont have the book anymore and im writing from memory.
As the story unfolds there is alot of high drama and great suspense, the imagery is beautiful, so much so that if Miss Morrison describes the heat you literally feel it too, if she describes a scene, perhaps a dark forest , where his friend Guitar hunts him down to shoot him, then its like youre at that place hearing Milkmans heavy breathing as he runs through the dark. Again i will say that this novel is awesomely written and the characters are so unique that their personalities are almost believable. I wont spoil this book any further, you must read it for yourself, youre gonna love it!

Jemimah Jones...

When i first read this book i fell in love with the main character whose name is Jemima. She suffered from insecurities, looking to food for comfort, crushing on sexy men who seemed out of her league, she even had a weight issue....i think about 300 stone was more than an issue though. Despite all this she was witty and sweet and quite  a loveable character. I enjoyed reading  her story. She takes on so many different roles in this novel. Victim, desperate woman, woman empowered, woman scorned and lastly woman on her own two feet, woman loving herself. I laughed , i cried, i envied, it was an adventure.
The men in the novel less than amazing but still in my imagination , and thanks to Ms Jane Greens descriptive skills they are beautiful specimens. *wink*
This book is a must read,  i encourage you guys to curl up with this book and enjoy. This tale of a womans quest to become the woman she always wanted to be. How this woman transformed herself  from the sad, pathetic, picked -on ,food addict to the amazing woman who is comfortable in her own skin makes for an awesome read , so go out there and start reading all my lovelies!!!!
Mwah!
